I'm curious what everyone's favorite book from the past year was! It doesn't need to be one that was published in 2024, any book you read in the last year counts.

Personally, my favorite book from the past year was actually a sci-fi comic called On a Sunbeam by Tillie Walden. It's a really moving coming of age story that is very much about found family.

I went through my last year's list (I'm participating a yearly reading challenge of the public libraries in Finland). There were several good books, though none of them was "this is the real masterpiece", but the one that gave me most was Jhumpa Lahiri's Namesake.

I read so much. I think I've decided that it's Rhythm of War, by Brandon Sanderson. I don't expect anyone to know who that it's, but I highly recommend him. If you like fantasy (and maybe a little SiFi from time to time), that is.
Well, I'm still reading my way through the Stormlight Archive books after I got into Brandon Sanderson's books back in 2023. Last year I read the 3 first books from the Archive and it's a bit hard to pick a favorite but maybe I'd pick Oathbringer just for the ending (it's the 3rd one).
I had completely forgotten than the newest book was supposed to come out last year. It's been 4 years since I read Rhythm of War, and I have a horrible memory. So I will probably have to start the whole series over before reading the newest one to refresh myself. Amazing series though, and amazing author. My favorite from Sanderson is Elantris.

But as for my favorite book I read in 2024, it'd have to be Dragons of Summer Flame by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman. Really got into their Dragonlance novels last year and that one was my favorite from among those I read.

Well, I think that reward has to go to How To? by Randall Munroe. It has really funny scientific answers to really great hypothetical questions.
I read that one! It was a fun beach read, just kinda lying on the sand reading about how to build a lava moat 🥰

Gosh lot's of similar tastes, I think I have maybe even played a part in them if you got that inspiration to read Sanderson from Muldel, Xander.

Big fan of Sanderson and Munroe, done some rereads of the former in the previous year, but lately I've been busy, so all I've been reading is an ungodly amount of moral and political philosophy as prep material for debating.
It's not the most exciting stuff to get through (many are a real slog, being translated from greek/latin and having the style of writing for their times) but it's quite fascinating, making me want to take a few proper courses in it in my own time honestly.

Hidden Pictures by Jason Rekulak was very good if you like thrillers or paranormal horror! Came out a few years ago and is pretty popular.
