Automate mod not working on casks anywhere except basement

I recently relocated all my end-game money making machines to Ginger Island, and when I did, I noticed that the Automate mod wasn't running on them even though it was working on every other machine. I tested outside on Ginger Island, in the Ginger Island house, outdoors on the farm, and in the kitchen on the farm, to no avail. The only place it will work with the casks is the basement of the farmhouse. Is this intended or is this a bug? If it's intended, it's not the end of the world and I'll move things back to the basement, it's just been a pain to be limited to that space. I tried placing them on paths and on the dirt to have them all on the same type of ground and it made no difference.

Isn't it the case that casks only work in the cellar anyway?

It is intended. Casks work only in the farmhouse cellar. I think there are mods that change this (and then there is Stoffton that adds an extra cellar)

Casks only work where they're specified to work. There is, however, a way to make it so you can place a Cask anywhere (there are several mods that take advantage of that map property). But if you have no mods allowing you to put Casks anywhere but the cellar of your house, then of course Automate won't work because the Casks don't work.

I'd recommend
  • Island Cellar Update
    • Adds a cellar to the Island (configurable size)
    • Love this, use it in my multiplayer playthrough
  • New Building - Winery (Casks Enabled)
    • Rather large (even with a "reduced footprint")
    • Finicky on who can build it in multiplayer (the host has to build it but the farmhands can all use it thereafter)
    • Been using this since before 1.6 and the only thing that bothers me is what I mentioned in the above bullet about farmhands not being able to build it.
    • Serious warning: If a farmhand tries to build this, it will take your materials/money and will show the building outline and then won't be there in subsequent days nor will Robin show as building anything. DO NOT LET A FARMHAND BUILD THIS - IT MUST BE THE HOST.
  • Build More Cellars.
    • Comes in 1x1, 2x2, or 3x3 cellar doors that open up into decent size cellars (configurable) that you build from Robin's shop.
  • Casks in buildings
    • Changes each map to allow casks to be placed
  • Cask Enabled Sheds
    • Does what it says on the tin (read: page)
 
Oh my gosh, thank you all so much! Six hundred hours in this game and I had no idea that they only work in the cellar. Thank you for the mod suggestions! I'll try them out, especially since I want to make a starfruit wine empire and need more space for that to happen.

To be fair - if the game wanted you to put them somewhere other than the cellar, their recipe wouldn't have been unlocked when you get the cellar upgrade.

One other mod, that I'm not sure is still around, is CasksAnywhere and it used to just make it so you could put a cask... well, anywhere. Think it was a C# mod, meaning it'd automatically update all locations (even expansion mods). But the mods I mentioned are nicer in that you can have even more space (like other "cellars") to put casks.
