It’s usually best to prepare my inventory the night before I go to the Skull Caverns, but when I wake up the next morning, check the Fortune Teller, and have terrible luck, it ruins the mood. External tools like BlaDe’s predictor help, but I don’t like to use those and I haven’t tried since 1.6’s changes to RNG.
So, I thought it may be nice to have some way to see tomorrow’s luck like the weather forecast, without changing the existing mechanics of the Fortune Teller. My idea was adding a phone number to the telephone for Welwick (perhaps obtained behind her booth or from the Wizard at the Stardew Valley Fair) which lets you request tomorrow’s luck forecast. For the rest of the day after making the call, the Fortune Teller channel would display the next day’s luck instead, maybe with some extra dialogue saying “I foresee that this may be useful to someone in Stardew Valley.”
This is obviously way too overpowered without some drawback or price. My first thought was a money cost that could be extracted overnight and explained in a letter the next morning, just like passing out does. That seems a little too exploitable, however, and doesn’t fit the theming well, so perhaps a quest system like the raccoon’s would work better. The morning after you make the phone call, you’ll get a letter asking for some magic-related item, like a solar or void essence or a warp totem or something similar. Until this quest is fulfilled, calling the number again does nothing. I feel like this is fairly balanced and could also be used to raise the cost with progression through the game, like demanding a prismatic shard or dragon tooth once those are more accessible.
