Are tomatoes a fruit or a vegetable? (inspired by demetrius)

They are by definition a fruit but since I like everyone in that family I always skip that cutscene and the hardwood bed cutscene the second I see them. I don’t know what friendship points go where for skipping but I’m not taking any sides.

This is a good idea as I don't like to take sides in these differences of opinion either, but I always forget you can skip these cutscenes. I'm super going to remember to do this next time. LOL who'm I kidding there's a vanishingly small chance I'll actually remember.

And 2 Strawberries, some Sashimi and a Peach makes everyone happy, right?
:sebastian: Strawberry for Seb

:robin: 'nother for Robin

:demetrius: got this Sashimi for big D

:maru: and finally a Peach for Maru

Look how happy everyone is! :toothy:

Here we go again….…🙄

Does all this hatred for others really do any good? Do you hate others irl this much? Who really deserves happiness or any other gift from another. Do you feel you actually deserve happiness?

Initially I wanted the incorrect gifts not to be liked by the others but that's not generally the nature of how gifts work in Stardew (with notable exceptions like Haley and the Shard and Penny and the Foot). So I quickly changed tactic.
_____

Instead I imagine that Farmer Bobbi has dozed off while fishing at the Mountain Lake to nobody's surprise and after a hard day's work, Robin and Demetrius exit their house to stand near the bluffs and listen to the whistling late afternoon winds. This day they hear a sonic addition off to their left which seems not to be adding to the moment but rather cuts across it with rhythmic incessance. Robin mentions she's heard rumors of this new addition to Nature's pantheon from Jodi who's recently spotted a purple-wrapped, bushy-haired Fish Ape dozing beneath the big tree near the river. Taking a few steps uphill and craning her neck, Robin confirms that it seems to be migrating north in the late season and has aflopped beneath the tree overhanging the lake.

Demetrius shakes his head with a smile and turns with Robin back to the house as Maru appears, heading to her meditation spot next to the lake. He warns her of the new fauna and that it's risky to wake slumbering gian eh, well danger sometimes comes in small packages. Maru quickly pulls herself up to her full height, such as it is, and retorts asking if that's some kind of short joke but at least he got the dangerous part ri— oh, heh yeah Bobbi. She muffles her giggles but mutters about short jokes anyway and gives Sleeping Fruity a wide berth while pondering at the lake. Bobbi shifts which muffles her sounds at least.

Hearing Seb leave the house she heads back in, knowing he likes his late evening solitude and not being a fan of cigarette smoke. They grunt as they pass each other, which passes as reasonable tolerance amongst siblings. Maru's eyes widen in delayed realization and turns to warn Seb that Farmer Bobbi is sleeping next to the lake and not mistake her noises as frogs mating, trying and failing to keep a straight face. Seb acknowledges, saying that if frogs made that noise he'd turn to raising salamaders as he's heard they're silent.

Seb stands next to the lake for a moment and notices it's chilly. That Farmer shouldn't be out accumulating evening dew all over her, she'll catch cold. He wanders closer, making enough noise to scare the frogs away and hopefully wake Bobbi up. Silently apologising to the frogs, he approaches as Bobbi stirs.

"Hey," Seb heys.

"Mmm what?" Bobbi starts, not fully among the living yet. "Oh hi Seb," the words meander out of her mouth, "you're not usually at the river..." rubbing her eyes and starting to stand.

"Mountain lake," Seb gestures lazily around. "You came this way to visit me and waited?" That wasn't what he'd intended to say but it came out unbidden.

Brain suddenly trying to shift from neutral to 3rd gear, Bobbi's eyes widen a bit and she stammers, "Uh, yeah, um it was light out and now its not." Wow. So clever. Even Vincent would have facepalmed at that.

"Lets go in, Mom's weekly fire from her failed projects should be lit now." Seb offers and Bobbi follows him towards the house. In the approaching light Bobbi realizes that she had planned to give everyone in the house some thank you gifts now that Robin had upgraded her Farmhouse to include a kitchen.

As they enter the house, Bobbi in her typical too-fast awkward recovery from realization turns to Seb with words rushing out, "Thanks for letting your Mom take evenings away to finish my kitchen!" And practically shoves him a fat Strawberry in exchange for thanks.

"And Maru, here's here's a Peach fresh from the Greenhouse," all excitement in Bobbi's voice, making sure Maru has the fruit with both hands. "And no Demetrius, it's not a drop from the Bat cave." …probably, she ponders. Maru gives Bobbi a hug and thanks.

"For you I made this fresh Sashimi," Bobbi says, a bit calmer now, getting into the groove, handing over the fish on a platter to Demetrius who accepts it with appreciation.

"And for the giftee of honor, I also got you this Straawwbeerrryy," Bobbi finshes with a slow flourish, part of the exaggerated motion stemming from the slow realization that she was pretty sure Robin's gift was supposed to be unique. Too late! Roll with it! Robin's slow curling smile competes with a hearty thank you.

"Um, I'm glad I could catch you all here and thank you all with some of the produce of the farm. I mean I'm glad that Seb woke me so I could catch you here. I mean... You know what I mean!" Nervous of 8 eyes on her while flicking hers back and forth to each, Bobbi stammers out a "See you all later!" And quickly exits the house on 24 Mountain Road.

The 4 of them exchange looks and smirks with some laughs and general guffaws mixed in and proceed to do a family bartering session to end up with their favorite items. And ponder how much more entertaining life has been over the past year or so with the new farmer roaming about the town.

I mean if it’s inspired from the game it’s probably more valuable to look at that.

It’s classified as a vegetable in the game so in all regards Robin is correct in her argument with demitrius.

Botanically in real life yeah, it’s a fruit. It’s used culinarily in the same way other fruits like cucumber, pumpkin, eggplant, and squash are, mostly cooked or in vegetable based salad.

Fruit makes wine or jam. Vegetables make pickles or juice. In Stardew Valley the game tells you what's a fruit, what's a vegetable.

However, in the world there are three types of things: animal, vegetable, or mineral. Everything from a plant is vegetable. Fruit is a type of vegetable. Like dolphins are a type of whale.

And peace is skipping the cutscene and letting the game decide where my friendship points go by keeping my mouth shut.
