Thats actually a solid idea, mabe not in the stardew valley fair though, mabe as a diffrent festivity . to add on to your idea, mabe if you have enough hearts with your animal they can win, and there are special diologues for animals like the void chicken and blue chicken, as well as the dino.

Then, animals should have some distinct look based on how good your term with them. An unfed cow is different with the one who's fed everyday.
