About to start couch co-op with wife. Have questions.

My wife who is not a really a gamer at all but I was able to get her addicted to Animal crossing has agreed to give SV a try with me. I figured it would be a great couch co-op game we could play together. That said, if she does like it there will be times she would want to play when I'm not home, or otherwise busy.

The plan is to play splitscreen on the Xbox X but after doing a bit of homework, I am concerned that if I start a game and then add her that in order for her to play I would have to be on. I do have previous gen xbox in the bedroom and am wondering if what the best set up would be so that we can play together? I guess if I'm not around she could always load my profile 1st and just leave me standing there? Or would you guys recommend another way?

No matter whether you play couch co-op or on two systems, there is always one host that has to be playing for the others to play.

You could either let her host, if you want her to be able to play the save file without you, or why not start a new game together and if she likes it enough to play alone, she could create her own single player world?

I'd recommend having her be host, if she's the one more likely to want to play solo as well. Then she won't have to deal with your profile, split screen view, any of it.

Edit: This is doubly true since you classify her as "not really a gamer", so why not reduce barriers to entry? If you want to play solo you still can, albeit with the aforementioned described setup of loading her in and her character just sitting there, and it would likely break immersion less for you than it would for her. You know you and her best of course, just working with the provided information, so forgive any faulty assumptions.

This makes the most sense. Ill probably just have her host. Are the save files tied to a console? or are they tied to a profile on the console?
If she does like it, I may get a Series S for the bedroom and then when we want to we can play separately, or knowing me, ill play something else.
Also thx for the input!
