Hi everyone !
Before the 1.5 update, removing the crib wasn't an option. That meant that every night, there was a chance of your spouse asking if you want to have a child. If you said no, that wouldn't diminish the chance of your spouse asking for a kid at some point another night. Which meant that over very long saves, your spouse would just be asking you over and over if you want children, even if you don't consent to it.
That used to be annoying and made me somewhat uncomfortable. (But not in a dramatic way, it's a game, it's just code and I'm aware of that, don't worry.) Thankfully, 1.5 fixed that with the option of removing the crib. Your spouse never asks for a kid during the night when the crib is removed.
But that made me think of a way to choose for yourself when you decide to have children and I suppose it's balanced ? Let me know.
•Additionaly to the spouse and house upgrade, I think you'd need to have triggered the 14 hearts event with them.
•After the 14 hearts event, you can interract with the crib. This would trigger a cutscene where you're looking at the crib with your spouse and they start talking about their opinion on kids, or a childhood memory, something along those lines.
•Then a prompt would pop up for you, where you would be the one asking for a baby after hearing your spouse's speech, or end the cutscene withtout asking for a kid. (Bonus : if your have low hearts with your spouse, they refuse to have kids because they don't feel like it's a good time and space for them)
•After that, you'd get the pregnancy/adoption stuff as usual.
In order to get the second child, a similar cutscene would start, but with the added consequence of already having a kid in the house, so your spouse's dialogue would differ a little.
I feel like it's a nice refinement to this old game mechanic. On one hand, you get to decide for yourself when you want to have kids, the cutscene would add more characterisation to the NPCs and it overall would feel more polished than a prompt on a black screen.
Hope you like my idea.
Have a nice day, take care !
Rose.
