2nd time playthrough

So screwed up enough my first playthrough that I'm about to start a second, saving stuff I grow instead of selling it all, talking more to the villagers, etc. What things should I do in the beginning that will help me later on? Like is there a ton of some resource I should hold onto, or is there an easy gift item I should stock up that everyone likes?

i would say generally keeping one of everything helps in the long run, as for gifts i know people like using mayo as a more universal gift, though i prefer green tea (which doesn't take TOO LONG to get but you do need to craft plenty of saplings)
