Switch 1.6 Update super laggy on farm

After updating to version 1.6 on my switch, I noticed the game being super laggy when on the farm in the daytime. It is almost impossible to enjoy playing at times because it’s freezing so much. This only happens during the day, when I come back to the farm later there is so lag.

But everything works fine elsewhere throughout the game so far.

Extra tech details
I’m on v1.6.9 build 36 on the switch.
I am playing single player with a controller.
Extra game details
I am using a meadow farm, have two chickens with the door to the coop always open, maybe 15-20 plants.
I am still in the first year spring.
Didn’t start happening until the Silo was built.
My cat has a hat on (the hat won from the Egg festival)

It's the exact same for me. Switch, all software up to date, in English, Meadow farm, two chickens with the coop door open, terrible lag in day time, but managable when I return at night. The lag issue doesn't thankfully extend beyond the farm so I've mostly been fishing and mining, but farming is practically impossible.

The lagging didn't start immediately though, but rather on the day Robin started building my first silo. At first I thought the issue might be connected to construction happening on the farm but it persisted after she finished the building.

I'm hoping this will get patched soon, as the lag issue is making it increasingly difficult for me to enjoy the game, which is a shame after waiting for half a year for the update to come on out Switch.

Very good point about the Silo! I noticed the same thing actually.

Hey everyone!
This happened to my game as well, also two chickens, the new farm, and just built the silo. I had a hat on my pet and when I took it off the game stopped lagging. If you by chance have a hat on your pet try taking it off, I hope that helps!

Oh that’s another detail I missed! I’ll have to try taking the hat off and see if that helps me as well! :)

The performance issues and bomb/explosive crash is going to be addressed in upcoming patch - he's aware of them so don't worry.

Performance issues are due to most likely a memory leak; as you play the game for longer periods the lag increases - you might need to reset the switch every few in-game days and see if it clears it up a bit. It is also amplified by progress, because as you progress more areas of the game are unlocked, increasing object count, that includes your farm and ginger island as well. The hats on pets was just another contributing factor but not the main cause, but that seemed to multiply lag by a large amount, that's why it was suggested not to use hats.

I'm so glad y'all solved this!! I'm on the riverlands farm on switch and it started lagging so badly after I put a hat on my dog! I took down all my torches thinking that was it and came here after that didn't work. I would have never guessed it was the hat!! Thank y'all so much!! 🖤
