[1.5 Spoiler] About Combat

1.5 udpates combat experience in the game. For long time, sword reigns supreme. Has this meta changed? Does anyone find dagger, hammer or slingshot useful now? What kind of combination (weapon, skill profession, forging, enchantment, rings, shoes, foods & drinks) do you use to increase their usefulness?

In my case, I found that Dragontooth Club forged with 2 emerald pretty satisfying. Now I switched to Acrobat and it becomes better than you think. Gonna find that enchantment which cut half cooldown duration and gonna spam slam those monsters!

For daily food & drink, I use Spicy Eel and Triple Espresso because they're basically infinite by having crystalarium. +2 speed also great for navigating everywhere.

I was forced to use a dagger for quite some time and i found that the dagger works really well against shadow people. Have yet to get to some of the end game content but it'll be soon for that.

-edit: Just went through the changelog, did clubs really change all that much? All i see is their cooldown getting longer for their specials.

You have to forge it with emerald to make them work, imo. The +5 speed is comparable to sword swinging speed. And if you use special move then rapidly click normal click while the slamming animation playing, you will slam ground rapidly. That's what making its special move better than sword's blocking.

Is that intentional as far as game design goes? I thought they would have patched that club special out by now.
I've found several dwarf hammers in the volcano. Forged for more speed they are acceptable, but I still prefer my galaxy sword.
I'm probably gonna try out the galaxy hammer and dagger eventually.

Okay, I usually just stick to my sword weapons, and late game, that's my Galaxy Sword. (soon I'll be able to afford those 3 soul dangles, though)

The wife used to go Desperado and use daggers... but well before 1.5 she'd given up on their effectiveness. She's now going the Brute route like I do, and she's rocking both the Galaxy Hammer and Sword. Thing is... comparing the two? Hammer? Less arc and slower, more damage. Sword? Greater arc and faster, less damage... until you enchant it with 3 rubies. The Galaxy Sword does more damage at that point than the hammer does. Does getting the hammer forged with 3 emeralds make it faster than the sword? Not that I can tell. Does the better special make up for fact that it's still slower and now does less damage? Maybe. (Edit to add: she uses the different weapons in different environments, like the sword which is Crusader when in the Skull Cavern, and the hammer which is Vampiric when elsewhere with fewer undead.)

I may try daggers again, though, now that 1.5 may have fixed them.

IIRC one of the 1.4 updates patched some animation bugs caused by the club special, without patching the special itself. So whether it was originally deliberate or not, CA seems to have decided to keep it.

I found on if those in the regular mines during the danger in the deep quest.

I'm not exactly sure what dropped it, I think either spider or radioactive ghost.
