1.5 Quest - Skull Cavern Invasion

[queenofsprinkles]

I am finding this quest impossible. I got bodied the second I entered floor 1 by 3 massive serpents coming from 3 different directions. Any advice on ways to make it easier? I have galaxy sword but I'm struggling to get enough gems to get the galaxy soul. I brought plenty of bombs and food but I didn't get to use any of them as I was killed immediately.

Stairs. Seriously, on this particular quest I never try to do it straight. Save up jade, trade it to the desert trader for more stairs. I just put down stairs and take them for every level except one where I see a staircase nearby or on treasure levels.

Also, make sure to have a good amount of food for when you have a moment to breathe after some monsters were quicker than you at getting down the stairs.

That's what I do.

Assuming your playing on single player you have to pause and eat every time you get below half health. You can clear the monsters out but you will need to pause every 3-5 seconds normally to eat. Take big health foods that heal you almost to full.

Thank you both!

i have found the Galaxy Soul in the normal mines as long as you have it in the new difficult mode and you can get Qi's Gems at the same time

If you have the cash for the galaxy hammer, there's a cool area-of-effect move you can do by right-clicking and then mashing left click and c. Basically you get the right-click special attack several times. Even if you can't mash fast enough to kill the enemies before they get knocked back, the knockback effect buys you time to eat food.
I've found that with the acrobat perk + artful enchant you can spam this fast enough that you don't need the regular attack at all. If not, you can forge an emerald or two with the hammer to speed up the regular attack.

Speaking of eating food, with the +2 speed buff from a spicy eel plus coffee, you can run fast enough to just dodge those serpents. I prioritize speed above all else in SC, because fighting enemies takes time that you could be spending getting further down in the mines. You can trade rubies and diamonds to the desert trader for spicy eel and coffee.

@Cptldsilver is absolutely right about eating when you get below half health. To do that faster, you can pause and use the hotkeys to switch to the inventory slot with your food in it. Just pause, switch to food, unpause and immediately eat. If you get used to that you can almost always eat before enemies hit you - I mostly die in Skull Caverns when I'm not paying enough attention to my health bar (which happens embarrassingly often).

I used this strategy and it worked for me. I used a very expensive 85 staircases and ate quite a few salads, but I got the gems. Thanks!

I know this is old lol but im just now seeing it! I just finished this quest for the first time and stairs work really well but i made it a personal goal of mine not to use them and it worked! All I used were Magic Rock Candy (extremely important), LOTS of bombs (also very important), cheese, and life elixirs!
