pet disappeared

On Day 26 of Year 1, our pet disappeared from the farm. We were playing split screen multi-player. The pet has also been removed from the animal list. We tried restarting the game. We even moved the pet bowl around. We advanced to the next day but the pet was still gone. Right before it happened...
