mines glitch

During local split screen when mining we have encountered a glitch where everything freezes and you can't collect anything or attack anything but you have to find the ladder to either go down a level or go out and start all over again. This becomes extremely annoying when trying to gather resources

I am in year one level 37 of the mine outside of pelican town. There is no rocks to find the ladder.
