connecting

I have a PC and a laptop. The PC runs Windows, the laptop runs Ubuntu. We both played through Steam. One day, the game stopped working on the laptop. It only works if I launch it with TERM=xterm. But then I can't connect through Steam. Only through a local network. In this case, I can't connect...

I am currently trying to play on PC with my son who is playing on Steam Deck. We have played many times together before. Whenever he selects "co-op" it says "connecting to online services.." and doesn't do anything else.
