can't join

hi um this is a pretty . common situation i think but we're both playing on switch we both have nintendo online and are friends on switch but . we can't see each others farm we did everything right, cabin and all but it . doesn't work context that can uhhh help? i live in france and he lives...

My girlfriend and I have been playing on the same online co op farm for 2 years and once we got the update we played on split screen together. We unlocked the island but didn't travel to it yet and then tried to play online the next day and it kicks us out whenever I try to join her. Any solutions?
