Clint as a marriage candidate…

So, I’ve been thinking about this for a while, but for 1.7 clint will be added as a marriage candidate, but his character for marriage just feels weird. He’s 40, and already has a confirmed attraction towards Emily, so it just feels weird. I think I would prefer a new character much over marriageable Clint, but maybe redesign of his story would work for him? Idk

I'm thinking that a story that turns him romanceable has him getting over his baby crush on Emily and trying to learn from his missteps, and maybe managing an awkward but much less creepy courtship of the farmer. But yeah, he needs a lot of growth and a much bigger arc to be successful.

Sandy's issues are mostly external (How to court someone who is almost entirely on another map you can often be late to reach?) But she's a self-confident, self-employed character, her character arc doesn't so far need her to overcome her internal self.

There are people who've asked for some older marriage candidates to be added, so I don't really see that as a problem, but his relationship with Emily definitely complicates things a bit. Like @Gridball Pom Queen said, we just need to trust the process.

It is easy to fix. Change his age from 40 to 25 and update his appearance to make him more handsome.

It is quite interesting that the 2 new marriageable candidates are both interested in Emily, which could create a rather interesting dynamic should ConcernedApe choose to lean into that. IMO a logical solution to this is Shane steals Clint's tween crush attention away from Emily, and Sandy finally realizes that being passive will never work. She observes how Clint never did anything to actually try having a relationship with Emily while Shane finally took control of his emotions and life to make his play for Clint's affections.

Sandy needs to do the same with Emily or forever remain just friends.

I can see where you're coming from with that. Personally, I am pretty exited to see what ConcernedApe does with Clint's story. However im worried that the 'trap' Shane fell into happens with Clint. (Having actual character development then ultimately having that mostly reverend in marriage)

I think that the story will mostly go about Clint realising that Emily just likes him as a friend. Them maybe the farmer can come in an give a hand in overcoming that. Also help him be a bit more confident, because I think most of his creepy actions are just lack of confidence (he is nothing like the farmer, professional creep hiding everywhere listening to the gossip).

I've been chuckling about this ever since I saw that smirk on CA's face just before he made the reveal in that video.

Which how much the fanbase has overall delighted in using Clint as the punching bag the last few years, using being "stuck" with him instead of getting someone like the Wizard like we wanted feels like our Just Desserts.

It will be very interesting to see how the meta and fan-theorycrafting around Clint changes on the other side of this update. Especially among the future players of this game who will end up only picking it up afterwards and will only know the new and improved Clint.

I've always thought it would be a funny idea if Clint's Special Shoes that "no one noticed" were in fact some prestigious bougie designer brand, that Haley actually did notice them, and that he garnered some measure of respect from her for his refined taste. Unlikely to come up in this update of course since Haley has long since been "paired up" elsewhere. But it's fun(ny) to think about.

As the game is currently constructed under 1.6 there's also no clear avenue for Clint and Sandy to interact in the same manner as all the other "pairs" do. So it's fun to imagine what aspects 1.7 will change around them, to create that avenue for Clint... or even for us. After all, Sandy is currently "locked content" as part of the desert and it's hard to imagine that changing, but then being "eligible" also means she'll have to be hanging out at the Flower Dance. Does she only show up after desert unlock, effectively meaning she skips Year 1 for all but the most disciplined of min-maxers? Does that mean Clint mopes by himself that first year? Does he only unlock for us as a consequence of freeing Sandy's path. Will she only show up in the dancing cutscene as a teaser/mystery person for new players to solve?

Looking forward to finding out.

I am not sure if this is a hot take, but I get this feeling that CA had an idea for a Clint romance that got awkwardly shafted around when it was revealed that Shane was voted into becoming the romance candidate rather than Clint.

You notice how Shane has a weird heart event where Shane himself barely feels peripheral and it feels more like showing Clint's awkward crush on Emily?

I had a feeling that was originally going to be Clint's heart event, but then got absorbed by Shane's story, and as such... Clint sort of just got left with nothing.

Clint also has a 6 heart event if you don't reach Emily's 8 heart event, where he actually gets to take him out to Grampleton Fair, even if, uh... Emily doesn't really see it as romantic.

In other words... I think the point was that Clint's 3 heart event was meant to be his 2 heart event, Shane's awkward Joja Cola event was his 4 heart event, Clint asking Emily out was his 6 heart event, and then the stuff afterward was him realizing that Emily probably just doesn't see him that way and the actual romance with Clint and the farmer materializing.

Again, I don't have proof of this, and I don't think CA has ever came out saying this, so this is purely speculation, but I get the feeling that with how uh... messy Shane's romance arc is, I get this feeling CA wanted to develop Clint more but instead had to shift some of that to Shane because that was the character the fans wanted as a romance candidate.

Personally, I am actually curious as to what CA would do with Clint and to see if my guess was correct. Honestly, I would probably prefer him more than Shane as a romance candidate to be honest. (Hot take, I know.)
