The function of Slime hutches

I honestly never really understood why slime hutches exist. I get that they allow you to gather slime more efficiently, what with the slime balls that you can harvest, but I don't think that there is any other purpose.
I might be wrong though, is there any other reason to get a slime hutch other than the mass harvest of slime?

You can breed different colors of slime, and pressing slime into eggs makes good money.

Glad I’m not the only one who’s confused. I also wish the building didn’t look like a prison and take up so much space. The slimes are pretty cute though!

Slimes need plenty of humidity so they don’t dry out.

It is a well-known fact that slimes love '80s-themed dance parties but of course some Green Slimes always gotta try and outdo the others claiming they're totally really Tiger Slimes.

Yeah my main use for slime hutches is that building one unlocks the slime eggs as potential loot drops (and Tiger Slime eggs fetch a nice price).

The other use is all those craftables that can't be put in a deconstructor (because they craft in multiples of 5/10 etc) can be used inside the hutch where I don't have to see them
