Blue grass mechanics

I've just started a fourth farm because I saw some pics of Meadowlands and couldn't resist. It's really pretty! I was wondering, though - the coop pen has a mix of blue and regular grass. Should I be trying to eradicate the regular grass in order to be more likely to get the friendship boost from the chickens eating the blue grass? Or will they preferentially eat the blue grass anyway?

I'm debating marrying Shane on this save because he loves chickens, but not sure....

I'm reasonably sure the animals are dumb and just eat the closest grass which can be green, and then love you less for it. I eradicate the green grass on Meadowlands.

I erased the regular grass on my meadowlands save. If the animals ate whichever was closest, fine. However, if they preferentially ate the blue grass, the regular grass would spread unchecked and take over.

Thanks! I finally managed to get enough clay for a silo, so I will hunt down and scythe all the regular grass!

That's good, the animals like the blue grass more and need less of it to stay happy. I also cut the regular for hay.

Blue grass does grow slowly though, so you might want to keep some regular grass around just so you don't eradicate all nearby grass and have to start some conservation efforts for it to spread again.

I would definitely keep some space between the blue and regular grass though, you want to leave it space to spread (it spreads to the 4 cardinal tiles around it and checks them each if free) without leaving it to just being eaten immediately

Blue grass (not bluegrass music) is great because yoir animals are more happy eating it and it also gives more hay.
