Changing names?

I was wondering how difficult is it to change the name of an npc? There are some names that I consider ridiculous and I want to change them to better ones. I imagine I would have to follow all same steps like I was creating a new npc just to change the name, right? Are the names of the character in any dialog files?

I choose to remain silent on that because I don't want to offend anyone or hurt their feelings. But I would like to change one or two of them to real names.

Grandpa? Governor? Bouncer? Henchman?

I never considered them. Grandpa? He's your grandpa, why would he need a name? Govenor? There's plenty of them that are just referred to by their title, not a name. So that doesn't bother me. Definitely the bouncer and the henchman could use an actual name and how about the ghost guy on the beach (can't remember what he's called at the moment) I don't think he has an actual name. But no I wasn't talking about them. I was talking about characters that have been made by a couple of mod authors.
