CA keeping with tradition, 1.7 will get a new farm!

I think we might get a farm for cooking
Nice Idea, but what should this one look like? Maybe more of having your own Restaurant and be a Challenger for Gus?

The farms we've seen so far always have a specific focus, such as animals, fishing, etc.
I could imagine one with a focus on forestry, meaning less arable land or pasture, but more timber cultivation, such as a tree nursery or forestry. Or a kind of nursery, with a focus on ornamental plants and special flowers, idk.

Do I smell a communist pig? What poor soul won't choose Joja over the wrinkly and smelly community center? In all seriousness tho I'm a Joja guy and there not as bad as there portrayed. CA really wants us to hate em but I personally think there not that bad. At least Morris isn't that bad. The guy takes money but he gets stuff done.
“communist pig”… I mean, what else can you expect from someone with a George Orwell quote. Still, these types of comments really shouldn’t be allowed on game forums. Go bark about politics on X, please. I'm so tired of superficial political comments... :defeated: Anyways, hurray, new farm :')

Dude it was a joke. And I don't use X anyways. Idk why everyone's so butt hurt about a joke. If you can't tell a joke then that's your problem. Why did you think I said "In all seriousness" afterwards?

I don't even care what he'll add to 1.7 update now, new farm would be so awesome! He added the Meadowlands Farm with a coop and 2 chickens for free, he had added the fish smoker for the Riverland Farm, Could it be possible he also would add something to one of the already existing farms? For instance, 2 Mayo Machines in the coop in the Meadowlands Farm?

Standard (large space), Forest (extra tree stumps and forage), Riverland (plenty of areas to fish, plus fish smoker), Meadowland (1 coop and 2 chickens), Beach (can't use sprinklers, but you get beach and regular forage, can also catch beach fish), Hill-Top (huge quarry), Wilderness (monsters spawn), Four Corners (a little bit of everything).

Maybe more to do with the monsters for combat? Like a farm that already has a slime hutch? They're so neat, but I never use them since they're so difficult to get resources for Robin to build. Or maybe a farm to help get forage skill up faster? Maybe something like the forest farm, but extra? Mm, the possibilities.

I'd love to use Wilderness farm more, but you'd have to wait until a certain time for the monsters to spawn, so it would be nice if there was a farm like the wilderness farm, but the monsters could spawn anytime. Just thinking up ideas here.

What do you guys think? Do you think it's possible that ConcernedApe could add something to an already existing farm? Since he did that with the Riverland Farm (free fish smoker) when the Meadowlands Farm showed up.

I would be so happy 🥰

if people don't laugh at your joke, then is it a joke?

Even if it was intended as a joke, remember that political talk is against the forum rules. You can make jokes, but stick to appropriate topics.

Now everyone, please move on from that and let's go back to the main topic.

A desert farm where you can plant palm trees and cactus seeds outdoors would be cool. Maybe you could catch sandfish in the farm's pond/small lake, too. It could have the same issue as the beach farm, with sprinklers not working in the sand. Perhaps instead of the benefit of crates washing ashore with goods and there being a large patch of soil that can take sprinklers, it would instead not get snow in the Winter, the same as the regular desert. So your animals could still roam about and eat grass.

Of course, this would pose the questipn of which seasons' crops would grow during Winter? Or maybe Winter is just shorter and you can plant either Fall crops later or Spring crops earlier.

Maybe it could have a mini, single level cavern like the Quarry Mine. There could be a large boulder blocking the entrance by design so you need to upgrade your pickaxe a couple times before gaining access to it. Maybe it could have a chance to have a Pepper Rex spawn in it!

I have no idea to be honest with you. Hopefully? Cause i just get bored in winter.
Fair, I tend to give gifts, if I don't have the Community Center finished, do that (or get further through it with the traveling cart). If I have desert and/or Ginger Island, unlocked, I'll go there. If I'm lacking that play through, I'll reach the bottom of the mines in winter.

The biggest thing I do is definitely the mining, though I'll also fish up any winter exclusive fish. Go to the desert (if/when I get that unlocked) and plant trees to grow there. I'll also give gifts in winter. I usually don't have the greenhouse unlocked in the first year (though I have gotten lucky before, thanks to the traveling cart), so I'll spam gifts a lot. Fall and Winter is also usually the time I get Clint to work, upgrading my tools. I'll have Copper Pickaxe and Copper Axe ASAP, but I'll start to further their upgrades, and get the watering can/hoe/trash can upgraded too. And get Robin to build/upgrade buildings for me.

A swamp? You can't use sprinklers, but the ground stays wet for an extra day after rain.

How would a desert farm play?
My idea for a Desert Farm is it's pretty big like the Beach Farm with various small Oases scattered about. You can farm near these oases with Sprinklers (the oasis is the water source) with an 8 to 10 tile range from the oasis but farther away from these you can't put any Sprinklers. You can still farm those other places watering manually like on the Beach. You should get random item spawns like the Beach and Forest Farms, but matching the Calico Desert's spawn table. There will be various rocky parts functioning like grassy parts on other Farm maps, preventing Farming but walkable and adding needed texture to the map.

Initial trees are all Coconut Palms to match Calico and there should be inaccessible Cactus there around the landscaped edges. And some animal skeletons! This should require some seeding mechanism change for Coconut Palms by making the Coconut the seed, though that makes the Coconut an inordinately valuable Tree Seed compared to the others so it should get some kind of buff when planting. Maybe that Coconut Palms always grow in 4 days without Fertilizer or something similar.

Or!

There is a small river cutting though one corner of the map and Coconut Palm Seedlings randomly spawn within 5 tiles of the river! You could chop them and receive the sapling to replant where you like and it would then grow like other non-Fruit Trees (regular fertilizer mechanics apply). New Coconut Palm Saplings would generate and plant themselves near mature Trees like seeds do for other trees, just skipping the seed stage. That would be fun and no need to change the Coconut at all!

You can Fish the oases but only get Sandfish and Algae. No option for Scorpion Carp until you unlock Calico Desert and even then, the odds are low.

Seeing as the more arid places on the general Stardew Maps all have challenge Caves, I think the Desert Farm should have one as well though I'm still considering how to match the mechanics to the rest of the game. It could be as simple as a small Cave with a Mining bed like 4 Corners and Hilltop, but adding the monster spawns from the Wilderness Farm except they're always there, unlike the Wilderness Map's nighttime-only spawns. Makes sense, it's dark and underground! Still wondering whether it should work as a simple single level or maybe a 10- or 20- level map with no elevator, each being a randomized map taken from the upper Mines spawn options. Nothing too OP but a source of stone and ores, maybe some artifacts with rare Artifact node spawns? It would be located on the far end of the Farm and not sure if:

• Open immediately but you need a Copper Pickaxe to progress beyond Level 10 because blocked by a big rock
• Remains completely blocked until you upgrade to a Copper Pickaxe
• Remains blocked until Joja opens the regular Mines as it also destabilizes your blocked Farm Mine entrance

Anyhow this seems like a fun mix of opportunities, limitations, challenges and gameplay.
