Non-Binary farmer

As a Non binary person myself, i wish so badly for a third gender option upon starting each save, along with gender neutral dialogue, and perhaps a choice between adopting or giving birth to your baby later in the game. I know there's probably a mod for this on PC, but I play on Switch so I can only play vanilla. I feel that everybody would feel more included with this option. Thank you.

Stardew does pretty well with not using any gendered pronouns at all tbh so I don't really see a need but more choices the better.

To use Dolphin Is Not A Fish's point from the Stardew discord server about this, "There's definitely quite a number of explicit reference to the farmer's gender, even beyond just pronouns. Alex saying the female farmer throws well "for a girl". Clint getting flustered with the female farmer and saying that her voice "sounds nice". George getting bothered if Alex is dating the male farmer, etc." I agree there is not much pronoun uses, but there is much gendered language. I recall being called "Young man" "Sir" "Farmer boy" and being called "Handsome" by my spouse. These terms are mostly okay for me as a trans masculine individual, but it is definitively NOT inclusive.

I'm also aware of the translations complexities, but i'm sure it can be done! simply talking to non-binary individuals from different cultures how they work around the gendered language, i'm sure will work.

Uh it's pretty time consuming to replace them all in every translation in the first place tho.

I agree for the change, while a sizable list you provided, it's totally not an unreasonable number of changes that need to be made.

I understand the argument about it needing some effort for translators, but its not a whole lot of effort, especially when any minor changes to dialogue or items being added already necessitate that.

It could be added as a feature in 1.7 if there doing more translation fixes anyways.

The biggest issue with this is that if they bring in non-binary then they have to bring in every other sexuality and gender because otherwise someone else will feel "offended". Sucks but such is life. And no i'm not bringing my own beliefs into this just simple logic and is true for a large majority of forum posts on every game in history. As is the same for irl... the minute you bring politics, religion and sexuality/gender into something someone will always be offended.

Personally i'm more interested in the actual gameplay rather than whether or not someone calls me he or she but each to their own.

Yeah, that's when I imagine it would be added, makes sense to incorporate it into a larger update

In addition to the dialog corrections, there will be other key changes which need to be decided for the gender-neutral farmer which boil down to:

Where do we stick them pixels?

• The female farmer model is 1 px shorter than the male model, so who's height should gender-neutral align with? IMO it should be the male model so crop tops look better (this is an important fashion decision).
• What swimsuit do they get to choose? Maybe you choose at the character creation screen, or everyone gets an '90's model! 1890s of course.
• The male farmer model has these awful club feet while the female farmer has dainty almost-realistically-sized feet that could theoretically exist on a humanoid being without questioning the entire 4 billion year process of evolution.

If I do ever play a male farmer I may need to do it with a mod to make the male have female feet as my sanity requires certain minimums for its preservation.

And if that mod doesn't exist, I'll make it.

As a nonbinary-identifying person myself, I wish they could add that option.
I don't mind the two gender options, but I always find myself playing as the male farmer instead of the female one for the sake of being more androgynous, although sometimes it feels a little off since it's not really true to how I wish to digitally portray myself.

(I mentioned something similar on a separate thread about this around 2 months ago lol)

something a little unrelated about myself (I feel like I should add it based on what I was talking about):
IRL I present more femininely (wish i could have my hair shorter though ) and w/ she/her but online I feel more comfortable with they/them :P

Idk why, but it feels right to be wayyyyyy more androgynous online/in games.

I have a male farmer but I use dresses or skirts in game. This is because I do not think in genders in my brain when picking a character.
