Inventory swapping

Hi everyone,

I am new to video games. Recently retired and thought I would give this a shot. The one thing I find confusing is the inventory thing. How do you move items back and forth between having access to them and having them on your person. The other thing that when I am in the inventory menu this garbage can shows up and I end up getting stuck at that point. I have had to start a new game 4 times because of this happening. I do know this is a lame question but it is tricky if you have never used a game console before. Any help would be appreciated

There are no bad questions! I will ask first what device you're playing Stardew on as the answer will depend on that :)
