PlayStation Unable to load into multiplayer (black screen)

Hi all, I'm hoping someone here might have some suggestions on how to troubleshoot a multiplayer problem I'm having. I'll do my best to summarize below, but if there’s anything I can clarify please let me know. We’d really like to not have to start over as we are almost at perfection.

Platform: PS5
Game details: Standard farm, online multiplayer (100+ hours, 2 players), English language game and should be up-to-date
Issue: Second player never loads in/black screen

For the past few weeks, whenever I try to join my partner’s hosted game, I see a black screen with an hourglass cursor and I never load in. I’ve left the screen sitting for 5+ minutes and it has not resolved. We’ve searched for similar reports and have tried a few proposed solutions but nothing has worked. I’ll details those below.

I should also note that this happened after my partner had to restore her Stardew save files from the cloud and we lost a couple weeks of progress.

Troubleshooting tried:
  • Stay on the black screen and see if it loads. It does not.
  • I cannot interact at all, unlike some other black screen reports where players can open their inventory.
  • We tried the multiplayer troubleshooting guide including checking NAT type (I believe we are both NAT type 2). Unsure if NAT type could be an issue as it’s the same it has always been and we’ve been playing for over a hundred hours without issue. The guide only mentions NAT type 1 and 3.
  • Host entered my cabin and tried to see if I was there/if she could trade (this was suggested online). My player character was not visible.
  • I’ve reinstalled Stardew and restarted my PS5 and router.
  • She has tried reconnecting to ensure she’s hosting properly and also re-downloaded the cloud save.
  • I created a new character, which DID WORK, but now we have extremely long load times between days (hangs on “waiting for players”) and some other latency issues. We have to wait minutes at a time, which is frustrating.
Thanks for your help.
