When married to Maru, she visits the bench next to the community center on Mondays. Penny does the same thing during her sunny summer schedule, so Maru ends up on the bench at the same time and in the same space as Penny, making it impossible to interact with one or the other. I've found that I can only give gifts to Penny and only talk to Maru.
