PlayStation PS4 save files not recognised on PS5

I’ve just downloaded the PS4 version of Stardew for my PS5 but when I have come to download the Save file from cloud storage it shows that there is no active save data?

I created a backup copy of the saves on an external HDD & copied them to the PS5 internal storage which didn’t work either.

It seems as though the game isn’t able to read the save file?

I have been able to successfully transfer game save files from PS4 versions of games to PS5 versions & so hopefully there can be a fix for this; It would be awesome to play on PS5

I've not experienced that personally, but I know there are issues with save data on PlayStation specifically. Files not deleting and such. Could be related to your issue, thank you for reporting. Hopefully devs are taking this seriously and actively working on it

Are any mods able to take a look at this?

I would love to continue playing on PS5 without starting over 😅😅

I don't suppose your previous PS4 saves are from the disc version by any chance?
Since they are from the disk version does this mean they’re unusable with a digital copy? I thought it would be okay since it’s the same game 😅

I’ve discovered this today myself unfortunately. Had a right ‘mare with game saves (multiple PS4 and PS5 consoles) and spent most of the afternoon on it.

Bought the digital version (as it’s on sale) for a PS5 so I could play it on a Portal without having to insert the disc, but it didn’t find my save. If I install it via the disc, it does find my save.

So I don’t think the disc version save game files are compatible with the digital version. In my mind they should be though!

I completely agree!!

Sorry to hear you’re facing these issues too 😭

I’ll keep posting in this thread in hopes that a dev or mod decides to look into it

Hey y'all, I'm sorry you're both having issues with the save games. I'll ask the porting team about this just in case, but from what I've seen, this seems like a PlayStation issue that we can't fix — Stardew save files from any platform (PC, mobile, console, digital or disk, etc.) are otherwise designed to load on any platform as well.

Can you check what region your disk vs. digital copy of the game are on?

Thanks also for the reply - same as @Chuck012, both disc and digital are PAL region (I'm from UK too).

For what it's worth, it's not solely a PS4 to PS5 issue it's an issue between digital and disc i.e. I've installed both disc and digital versions on the same PS4, but the digital version can't find the game save from the disc version. I've attached some photos just because I could!

The digital version seems to create a game save upon start-up, hence the x2 game saves.

I do find it suspect that the parental control levels are different - I know the original disc game was PEGI 7 and I think since various updates the game is now PEGI 12? That isn't reflected on the disc version, but obviously is on digital, so maybe it doesn't think it's the same game? Clutching at straws maybe!

Thanks for the additional information!

After notifying the porting team, they had an additional question for me to ask. Can you check the version history of both your digital and disk copies, and see what the oldest version listed in the patch history is? They say it should likely either be 01.01 or 01.56.

Additionally, in case you know, (roughly) when did you originally buy your physical copy? (Doesn't have to be super precise, but we're looking for roughly sometime before or after 2021).

Sure!

V1.56 for Digital.
V1.01 for Disc.

Edit - Sorry, didn't see the additional question. My copy was definitely purchased before 2021.

Thanks for the information! I'm paraphrasing from the porting team, so the following explanation is probably a little inaccurate.

It seems the likely issue here is that there are two versions of the Europe (SIEE) region: one newer version, and one older version that existed prior to 2021. The disk version of the game that you both own is on that older SIEE version, while the digital copy is on the newer SIEE version. Because of this, PlayStation recognizes the two as different games/titles, hence why it isn't loading the save data.

Good news, though! The porting team said that they can work on a patch that allows for loading saves from other regions/titles. Unfortunately, I'm not aware at this time how long that process will take, but it is on our radar now.

Thanks for the report, additional information, and your patience! Hopefully we'll have a fix in for this in the coming versions.

No problem! That makes sense to me - I'll await the future patch. Thank you for the support, much appreciated!

I’m away from my consoles atm but can check the versions when back.

This definitely checks out tho!! I purchased my disc copy in 2018 (PS4) & Digital in 2025… how time flies 😅

Thank you so much for the update 😄

I’ll await the patch whenever it may come - Have a great rest of your year! ☺

Hi there,

Just wanted to add that I'm experiencing the same issue and has spent multiple hours trying to fix it with install/uninstall and save file editing with no luck.

Not sure if it's any help, but my disc version, which seems to be the same as OP, has the region/version code CUSA06829 while the digital version has CUSA26625 which i believe is what makes the Playstation see them as different games.

Hopefully the port team will have a fix available within not too long, me and me family will be eagerly waiting :)
