Player Birthdays

I’ve been thinking about how much time we spend tracking down the perfect gifts for the villagers' birthdays, and I realized something that would add a lot of charm to the game: Player Birthdays.

Having our own birthday on the calendar would be an amazing feature that makes the farmer feel even more connected to Pelican Town. Here is why I think it would be a great addition and how it could work.

Why It’s Important and Nice to Have:

It makes friendships feel reciprocal: We spend all year giving gifts, remembering schedules, and throwing items into the Luau soup. It would feel incredibly rewarding to have the town give a little of that love back to the farmer.
Deeper Immersion: It adds a personal milestone to the year and makes the farmer feel like a true resident of the valley, rather than just an observer.
A New Early Game Choice: It adds a fun layer to character creation.

How It Would Work:

1. Setting the Date & Favorite Item

When creating a new farm, right under the "Favorite Thing" box, there could be two new options:
Birthday: Choose a Season and a Day.
Favorite Gift Category: Choose a preferred gift type from a dropdown menu (Foraging, Artisan Goods, Mining, Cooking, Crops).
2. The Town Calendar
Your character's face would appear on the town calendar outside Pierre’s shop on your chosen day, just like the other villagers!
3. Receiving Gifts
On the morning of your birthday, the town reacts to you:
Mail: You wake up to a special birthday card from your parents or Sandy containing a nice item or some gold.
Villager Interactions: When you talk to villagers that you have a high friendship level with (maybe 4+ hearts), they will wish you a happy birthday and hand you a gift!
The "Favorite Thing" Mechanic: The gifts they give you are based on the "Favorite Gift Category" you picked at the start of the game. If you picked "Sweets," Gus might hand you a Pink Cake. If you picked "Mining," Clint might give you a Geode or an Iridium Ore.
4. Special Events
Spouses & Roommates: If you are married or living with Krobus, they will greet you first thing in the morning with custom birthday dialogue and a special breakfast.
Surprise Party Cutscene: If you enter the Stardrop Saloon after 6:00 PM on your birthday and have a high average friendship with the town, it triggers a mini "Surprise Party" cutscene with the villagers.

What do you guys think?

Not the first suggestion like this, yes it is a great idea!
Surprise Party Cutscene: If you enter the Stardrop Saloon after 6:00 PM on your birthday and have a high average friendship with the town, it triggers a mini "Surprise Party" cutscene with the villagers.
Maybe have Gus notify you with a mail without any details, just like "would like to see you in the saloon today after 6" because imagine them setting up a party and the farmer doesn't come because they're oblivious. Or to keep the suprise part, make it so you only need to enter the town square. Lower chance of you missing it, but still unexpected. Maybe the cutscene starts with you walking up to the saloon and someone comes out and invites you inside.
"Speedrunning getting a piece of iridium: set your bday to spring1, talk to Clint, if wrong gift, reset"
Edit: I just realized the above doesn't make sense if you need some level of friendship to get a gift. Oh well.

Yeah, having an in-game-birthday would be a nice option and a love-like-dislike-hate-list for the farmer, too. Also, when it comes to the Winterstar Festival... You actually get gifts from the residents if your friendship level is high enough.

But having a party would be really cool 😊

Didn't know it depends on friendship level. I thought that its just a randomly selected villager that gifts you something after you gift the npc assigned to you.

Maybe that was put wrong, Winterstar doesn't deoent in friendship level , but the daily gifts/recipes are. And I often wishes for such a list, when I receive fertilizer or beer... 😁

Yea the ones you get in the mail definetily do, recipes you get at specific hearts and gifts are random but the higher your friendship, the higher the chance for it.
A list of loved/liked gifts could be tied to friendship too, like on higher hearts they start giving you more loved ones. It would have to be limited to more or less average items tho. Wouldn't make sense for NPCs to gift you Qi's legendary fish counterparts or stuff like catalogues.
Another thing I'm thinking about is how would you choose the items - maybe in categories like Abdullah Joujou suggested, or just from a limited list which also solves the above. Putting a whole list of most items in the game into farm creation menu doesn't sound that great.

I just got a really cool idea, what if the farmer could get a portrait from Leah on their bday? We already have spouse portraits, so player's one makes sense, no?
Nice idea ngl.. but if this will remain every year you'll end up with a bunch of portraits..
Or you've meant that in a specific year or a heart level Leah will give you this portrait?

Didn't think it through at first honestly. Maybe once you hit 8 hearts with her she can gift you one, and if you lose it it'll show up in crow's shop in secret woods, like the trophy you get for completing cc does.

Perhaps it could be an option besides the statue she gifts you... And it should be a kind of Dorian Gray Picture in case you go to the Wizards basement and change your apperance.

Also when you get a specific level heart with Emily, she would get you a shirt with your face on it...
I've aslo got another idea, when you get 8 hearts level with Penny, she would write a book about the player personality..
What do you think?

I wouldn't wear a shirt with my face on it, that's kinda weird, but the idea is nice. Maybe instead if you talk to her on your birthday, she'd say "hey I wanted to make you something special, but wasn't sure, what do you prefer?" And you get to choose a theme, and she makes you a shirt according to what you chose. Would be cool for it to be a whole outfit, but that'd take away from her 14 heart event.
Orrr it could be a shirt with your first pet on it! Actually now that I thought of that, I like it more than my prev one.

Your suggestion for Penny is great, it could be like the fortune teller where it varies depending on the choices you make on this specific save.
