I would like to make this nerdy thing nerdier, please!

Hi there! I’m hoping someone here might have some insights into where I can find Stardew Valley statistics. I’m looking to dive into everything from the most popular farm types, spouses, and skill tree paths, to the probability of finding a treasure chest while fishing. How R is the RNG in the game? Is there a formula for predicting the weather?

Any data or resources would be greatly appreciated! My math requirements for my degree are all in the front half of my program, and I’d love to stay sharp by crunching some fun “Stat-dew Valley” numbers. 😏

Thanks in advance!

Ask @FilthyGorilla he is like having a second Stardew wiki around

Well I can help with some of that stuff, though statistics of popularity go a little rng or what the game tracks.

For those I'd recommend perusing some of the posts here, there have been other students who host polls for their own projects (with some answers you may find useful), or general forum-integrated polls with small sample sizes that you could extrapolate from. Reddit also often has much the same, though take what data you take with some discretion as the online communities and especially smaller online communities can have echo chambers of certain thoughts around the game (forest farm may be most popular in a speedrunning community because it's used in so many speedruns because of the small benefit it gives to them, etc.).

For actual rng and in game mechanics, I would recommend decompiling the code and reading through specifics yourself, and joining technical stardew communities to ask

I can answer some questions like weather - weather is seeded on the mainland - uses SYNCED_RANDOM conditions now - though uses and unseeded random on the island (unless this was changed since around 1.6.4) - using game1.random in a certain stage in the overnight processes where it is influenced by step count (it's a little more complicated than this but I don't honestly remember how exactly)

More specific and I can't explain everything, though I know people who often can or fill gaps in my own knowledge. If you want to send me a message over the forums with your discord account I can add you to a couple technical communities with information you may want and people to ask

Check out Leapalot's Youtube channel for some videos he did after conducting polls if you're interested in things like who is everyone's favorite villager. I think he put the raw data collected up somewhere, too. Salmence also did a poll on farm types, results also on Youtube. Both creators did these pre-1.6 so Meadowlands was not included.

The Dew Crew and my discords are good places to ask questions, as we/I specialise in these kind of questions.

To visualize certain RNG aspects, have a look at the predictors:

Hey!For stats, definitely check the Stardew Valley wiki – there’s a bunch of info like treasure chest chances (I think it's around 15% with good fishing level). As for RNG, it’s pretty random, but there are mods to help you control it a bit PS:The weather can also be predicted if you use mods, Main game data is a bit scattered, but the wiki and other forums have user-made analyses! 👻
