Do you prefer Stardew Valley 1.6 or 1.5 or aspects from both?

This is not meant to be a criticism thread but honest preferences. So for those of you who have updated do you prefer the 1.6 or 1.5 version of SDV or aspects from both?

Well everything from 1.5 is in 1.6
Right but some subtle changes were made, plus some aspects of 1.6 some people don’t like, while others didn’t like some aspects of change in 1.4 to 1.5. Just little preferences.

my husband got a steam deck which gives the option to keep 1.5 or update and I’m trying to decide which to do. I want to mod with it so I’m trying to decide which base version to use.

I'll try to keep this spoiler-free.

I prefer v1.6 because it adds things all over the valley and expands on the core of the game inside of Pelican Town instead of adding new bits of the periphery. It fills in places that didn't seem spare beforehand but certainly benefit from additional things to do there.

I feel that the physical isolation of Ginger Island from v1.5 makes it stand apart from the core gameplay loop of Stardew Valley, at least until you get the Return Sceptre and Island Obelisk. Maybe the Hossfloot as well. Even then you can choose to ignore Pelican Town for long stretches of time if you prefer which felt a bit off to me, and explains why I haven't found some of the things to do at Ginger to be particularly compelling.

Yes, the Desert is also separated from Pelican Town but it is a very small area and not covered with quests you need to do. It boils down to: Desert Trader, Sandy, Casino, and Skull Cavern so it's more of a resource but not a place you can choose to live away from Town. And IMO some new v1.6 content seems to integrate the Desert a little more into town, which is great.

Aspects of both, 1.6 is missing a lot of stuff from 1.5 which made me enjoy it, personally I think the features and bugs in 1.5 I'm too accustomed and attached too, maybe with time I'll like the few features that came with 1.6 more than all the little things it removed but for now I'm playing 1.5 for anything serious. I do have a lot of saved versions like 1.4, 1.4.1, 1.5.6, etc. I can play on whenever so I'm not too upset, it just means that I will be missing some features on my main farms for the foreseeable future.

(I can play old versions from their files and play 1.6 from steam, I just need to make sure not to open my 1.5 saves on 1.6 as both offer files from the same location.)

Lots of stuff, the old rng for one (legacy rng isn’t the old, more a dress up of the old which acts largely the same but not completely), a lot of really cool bugs in the game (some of which were nigh on necessary for me), honestly a few more points of freedom like with using tea saplings or the casino for resources, and that’s to list just a few

I think i like 1.6 way more! So much in fact, that i finally yielded and started a new run (i was afraid of repeating all that wetwork again, complete with excessive grinding and whatnot). The real asset for me, is tickets and rewards, from normal billboard quests. I also liked the new trees, moss and its recipes.

Due to a lack of free time, I did not have the opportunity to see everything in update 1.6, nonetheless I have a very positive feeling about it.

It improves the valley in many ways: nice graphical changes, more randomisation in events, more dialogues, new events, attention given to two areas where there were little action previously (Calico Desert and Cindersap Forest), new items that add more variety to the gameplay, lot of new personalisations to decorate, new pets...

The overall feeling is that the valley seems more alive than previously.

There are a handful of things that I don't care or I know that I won't use, but that was also the case with previous updates and I even changed my mind later about such things.

So far, there are only two things that I dislike in 1.6:
  • the Joja parrot on Ginger Island and especially the fact that it stays even if all golden walnuts are found by the farmer
  • the decrease in the drop rate of prismatic shard from iridium nodes. I know this is intended for people who break lots of nodes deep in Skull Caverns, but it will make life harder for those who are looking for their very first shards (which are almost mandatory)

That's only two things in the looooong patch note, so we can safely assume that I'm positive about this update. And if more proof was needed, I got it one hour ago when I launched a game of SDV on my phone and I was spotting all the things that I would change, update, process, do differently if 1.6 was already available on my phone!
 
I haven’t play 1.6 yet bc I’m a switch player but 1.5 felt like a DLC that you could play the game without??? Kinda: I obviously love it so much it feels normal now, but at the beginning it felt like more of an add-on/sequel while 1.6 fits more naturally. I can’t wait to play it myself though!!
 
I really enjoy 1.6--or what I've seen of it thus far! 1.5 was amazing because you got Ginger Island, 1.6 kind of appears to tie it all together and adds elements one may not have considered prior, such as the helper ticket system and moss--what a game changer moss of all things has been! I love the books and I'm so excited to buy the vintage catalogue when home decor becomes the focus; the idea of more furniture options, especially vintage furniture, fills me with glee. The fact you can get a second pet AND you have friendship hearts with said pets is incredibly helpful and makes the animals feel a bit more whole in general. It seems like there are more customization options too and how could anyone forget about the ocean/sea/river jelly? That stuff is awesome for early game buffs! I'm so excited to see what else 1.6 has in store, but so far I'm a huge fan and I love what CA did with it!

I always play through to perfection and I finished my first Meadowlands farm perfection run yesterday (actually completed everything per Stadew Checkup, other than the arcade games which I never play). I have mixed feelings.

New content is never a bad thing but I didn't think the new festivals added anything - I only attended the first day of each and never went back. Other changes largely seemed to make the game easier when it didn't need to made easier because it wasn't difficult in the first place. The larger chests, iridium hoe, advanced iridium rod and deluxe bait were all useful but none of them were really necessary. Many of the changes feel like they were designed to encourage players to pursue perfection because they make it easier to achieve, but as I didn't need that encouragement I don't really consider them beneficial. Others may consider them more useful though, and it's great if they do.

More specifically, I didn't like the green rain or the bookseller and the stump quest was just an extended version of the trash bear. Having said that, if they had been present in earlier versions I wouldn't have had any problem. As additions at this point, they seemed a bit pointless.

I said earlier I had mixed feelings, but as I've typed it's become clear that actually I don't really see much that's worthwhile in 1.6! 1.5 was already out when I first discovered SDV. I think I would have found the game disappointingly limited without Ginger Island so had I played it prior to that I would have thought 1.5 to be a great update. 1.6 doesn't match up to that.

None of which lessens my admiration and appreciation for CA of course, and I'm greatly looking forward to Haunted Chocolatier.
