Why don't horses leave footprints in the snow?

The horse is running on snow, but without footprints it is levitating. The funny thing is though, it plays the audio of hoofs hitting the ground.

BTW I play on switch so it might just be a Nintendo thing.

Wow, good spotting. I never noticed that!

And you know what's gonna happen now... try as I might I'm never going to un-see it. I'll be a-bothered every Winter.

The majority of the games I played did not leave footprints. –eg. Zelda Oracle of Season.
Few games like Spyro the Dragon did leave the footprints temporarily. But, the footprints did not last long.

It's all up to the programmers or coding mechanism to make it happen.
