When I went into the forge level of the volcano mines, I opened the treasure chest with the prismatic shard. Since I had a full inventory, I placed something into it and then took out the prismatic shard. Later the following day, I came back and emptied it out of the chest. Ever since then, every time I enter that section of the map, I can collect a prismatic shard.
I am playing in 1.5.3 multiplayer, in english.
