i'm trying to get back into the game because of the technical update. i love looking for stuff that might be bugs and possibly helping out, but god, i just NEVER understand what past-me was doing in my games. i tend to start a new save every big update, but decided to just go with my 1.5 save this time. i'm in fall year 3 and i just hate my farm layout!! i had random furniture in my invo!! past-me what are you doing!!!

Honestly? I'd spend the day not doing anything important, just exploring what you have and where you have it... and then quit to menu. Re-start the day, do it again maybe, just exploring what you have and where you have it. After you finally feel like you have a handle on what you want to do, load up the save and actually play the day.

I have done something similar to that... I just started playing it. Jump in don't look down and keep going....
Fix it one step at a time, don't over think it; the second you do that, you'll get discouraged and just want to start from scratch AGAIN!!!!

I had a far like that and I didn't bother analyzing that farm, I just started play it for fun and WOW! I was so unproductive on it before! I did not get half of the Community Center done. Once I started it again I was able to get a lot done really quickly without much effort and fixed most of the layout issues. It felt very rewarding to fix the problems I had with it too. :proud:
Granted I did not make it past year two... That maybe why is only took a couple in game weeks to slowly fix the issues it had.

I tend to play in a pattern once I have a greenhouse.
Sunday pick green house farmable squares. Make wine. Pet animals.
Monday harvest trees in green house. Check in with townfolk and gift. Accept board quest. Pet animals
Tuesday prep board quest. Complete depending difficulty. Go fishing
Wednesday review question for action. Pet animal. Go visit sandy. Play at casino. Go to SC
Thursday pet animals pick trees gift villagers, visit sandy finish in SC
Friday travel to ginger have some fun in the volcano
Saturday harvest my ginger island crops. Do outstanding items finish in volcano

It's generally about trying to find what problem I was finding utterly booooooring and worth avoiding for 6 months.

So kinda like having a job.

Usually your farm will be presented as a scavenger hunt and who doesn't like that? :abigail:

1. Find SO
2. Don't admit to being surprised who he/she is. Again, good practice for IRL.
2a. If no 14:heart: event yet, definitely grind for that. Yes, even for Penny.
3. See what I've cluttered the house with. If I find lotsa Cactus and Coffee, I'm pretty far in the game.
4. Look at outside chest organization. Inevitably it will make no sense as it's optimized for dyslexic squid.
5. Look at hearts with villagers, note who's been ignored. Probably for good reason, continue doing so.
6. Look at Greenhouse. Higher ratio of Ancient Fruit to anything else signifies likelihood I've become Joja 2.0
7. Head to
a. Community Center
b. old Joja location
c. Willy's Fish Shop
... and see where I left off
8. Look at active quests, choose:
a. Finish Level 100 Skull Cavern
b. Finish Qi's Walnut Room
c. Finish Introductions
9. Sleep until Winter 28. Plant Grass Starter. Sleep. Enjoy grass.

Other comments to add to Lew Zealand's list, based on my having just pulled up an old farm for fun:
1. Walk out the door to be greeted by Gus with a mini juke box. Belatedly realize that you last played this farm before 1.4 even came out.
2. Figure out if you've got any speed buffs around. Ideally do this early instead of running around super slowly for half the day before realizing that you have pepper popper ingredients in the fridge because pre-1.4 you didn't carry around giant stacks of spicy eel and espresso.
3. Figure out where the heck all your machines are. Surely I had more than 30 jars and 135 kegs somewhere? Apparently I did not.

Well...

I tried. And I can officially state that my very first farm is a mess.

Kegs outside, no Autograbbers, not enough grass, Bee Houses in multiple locations.

Seems like past-me thought it was a good idea to spread tappers out all over Cindersap. And they weren't all placed on the same day.

I must have forgot to put a Scarecrow there, and no – it’s not protecting Starfruit, it’s protecting Melons. Watered by Quality Sprinklers, not Iridium ones.

Next I find out that the Community Center still needs a Rabbit’s Foot and I don’t have a rabbit.

My rings are a Glow Ring and a Small Magnet Ring, and I’m still carrying around an Aquamarine Ring in my backpack, even though it does nothing useful.

Looks like I only have two Crystalariums, one with Emeralds (presumably for a 14  Penny), one with Diamonds (why not Jades?).

But what put me off the most was my inexperienced farmer's lack of Coffee.

So, after a few days of doing precisely nothing, I hopped back onto Sellout Farm, which as of the moment has 407 cups of Triple Shot Espresso and 42 Crab Cakes.

Lovely.

Right?? I look at these old saves and wonder wth I was thinking at the time. It takes *days* to redo everything if you've been gone a while, as I've found out over the past several weeks.

Well, I'll be going back to all my saves and adding ponds. For some reason I thought ponds were too fiddly and didn't want to fool with them, but I recently got into them on my latest save and I now have all of the colors and am really enjoying the quests. And fishing for the stock is fun!

Honestly I am snooping around here looking for ideas but my situation isn't that serious. I lost all my saves so I need to make a new "main" and will take quite some time to get bored, especially after not playing for over a year. There's a lot of changes and I imagine a lot of them are QoL, which is amazing.

I remember that last year I had a silly idea for a challenge, but my life was so miserable at the time that I gave up, even though I spent more than a week planning. Unfortunately, I don't have the heart to do it again, since I lost all my notes and it's too much work.
