PC [HELP] bait won't attach to fiberglass rod

I'm on a MacBook Air and have tried everything I can think of attempting to attach bait to my fiberglass fishing rod. Nothing has worked. Any ideas?

Open your bag, pick up the bait, drag and drop it on top of the fishing rod. At least that how it works for me on mobile.

The first thing is to check it's not actually a tackle, as those can only be used with the iridium rod. To add bait to a rod, open your inventory, click on the bait, move it over the rod, then right-click to add it. If you're playing on a trackpad, you'll need to do a two-finger tap for a right-click.

How do you add bait on a Switch? I've picked up the bait and tried every button after but none would apply it, even to the crab pots. I'm sure it's pretty simple but I can't seem to figure it out.
