Linux [HELP] Steam Deck Controller Issue

So I am really perplexed. I've put 24 hours into Stardew recently, playing it on Steam Deck. 3/4 of that time has been while the Deck has been docked, so I've been using a separate controller (a PS5 controller). Today I tried playing and the game refuses to recognize the controller. This is not an issue of the Steam Deck not responding, since I can bring up the Steam overlay and interact with that. I also tried an Xbox controller. I tried restarting the Deck. I uninstalled and reinstalled the game. I've changed the controller configuration. Nothing works. Has anyone had this problem?

Hi! How did you get the controller to work in the first place? every time I try to play docked mode, it wants to use my game pad as the controller... even when I go to big picture mode, it uses the deck as the controller. I see that it will let me configure the dual shock controller (a DS 4) in my case) but it always uses the game pad no matter what I do

I use a PS5 controller for the Deck when it's docked. When I started playing it just worked... for a little bit. The other day after problems started I updated the controller's firmware, made the Deck forget it and reconnected it via bluetooth. That got it working again, for a short while, then it went back to not working. Hmm...

I'm running into this as well.

Was using stardew valley expanded--about 1-2 weeks ago it seemed like controllers were working fine, but now wireless controllers don't seem to work within it. The controllers (PS4) work fine for everything else--navigating the deck UI, in other games. But in stardew valley only the mouse pad/cursor works (none of the other controls on the PS4 controller work).

The solution is to swap the controller order on the deck to steam deck as controller 1 and the external controller as controller 2, but there is currently a bug that causes diagonals not to work correctly on the controllers sticks and they are treated like digital buttons. And messing with the controller order after this adjustment breaks it again.
